BRDC Rising Star Alex Ninovic took the clear upper hand in this year’s GB3 Championship title race, with his fifth and sixth wins of the season, at Brands Hatch. Enzo Tarnvanichkul then blasted to victory in the top 12 reverse grid finale, which also produced breakthrough podiums for Jack Sherwood and BRDC SuperStar Abbi Pulling.
Race one
Ninovic held the lead off the line but was made to work for it as first BRDC SuperStars Deagen Fairclough and then Freddie Slater set about taking the position at Druids on the first lap.
After building an early lead, Ninovic was slowly reeled in by Slater, but that was as close as it would get as Ninovic powered into the distance, extending a lead of over four seconds before a late race Safety Car. There was enough time for two racing laps upon the return to green flag conditions, but Ninovic aced the restart and won with a margin of two seconds to Slater, with Fairclough third.
Race two
From his second pole position of the weekend, Ninovic controlled race two in a similar style to his victory On Saturday. He made a great start and pulled out a comfortable margin to Slater, who couldn’t match the Australian’s pace and had to settle for second place, while Fairclough ensured that the race two podium was a duplicate of the top three from Saturday’s opener.
Race three
In a frantic finale, Tarnvanichkul made a rapid start from second on the grid to snatch the lead from pole sitter Jack Sherwood at Paddock Hill Bend, while BRDC Rising Star Will Macintyre held third.
As Tarnvanichkul disappeared into the distance, Macintyre applied big pressure to Sherwood, but ended his race in the gravel at Hawthorns, bringing out the Safety Car. When racing resumed, Kai Daryanani and Fairclough also came to trouble at Hawthorns, promoting Pulling to third, and moments later a further incident led to a second Safety Car.
The race effectively ended under neutralised conditions, with Tarnvanichkul, Sherwood, and Pulling all earning their first podiums.
The GB3 Championship returns for its penultimate meeting, at Donington Park over the weekend of October 4/5, before the season finale at Monza two weeks later.
