SuperStars
For the past 13 years, the BRDC SuperStars programme has focused on developing the most promising young British drivers across all classes of racing and sits alongside the Club’s introductory Young Driver programme; BRDC Rising Stars. To date, BRDC SuperStars has seen some of the most exceptional talent that exists on an international scale today in all categories up to and including Formula 1.
Created by Damon Hill OBE and in recent years closely overseen by Derek Warwick, both of whom are former BRDC Presidents, the programme has a strong record of results with SuperStars chalking up an impressive total of 384 wins, 1,558 podiums and 342 pole positions, with over 45 drivers becoming full-time professionals during their time on the programme.
I am delighted to be continuing the day-to-day running of the programme. We have worked with an expanding number of specialists over the past few years, while also arranging new and enlightening team events. It has been great to see every driver achieve their goals and end each year with exciting opportunities ahead of them. As a former BRDC SuperStar, I am fully aware just how helpful the 24-hour support and guidance is to an emerging young driver and I am delighted that I can give back the same support that I benefitted from.
Being a true professional driver takes much more than just raw speed. This is where the programme really helps each and every SuperStar. With my own personal guidance and assistance, combined with workshops or individual training delivered by our chosen specialists, we cover all things on-track and off-track. Whether the requirement is driver coaching, media training, aiding with contract negotiations or mental and physical training, we are here to support the drivers throughout the year to help to secure the best opportunities for them.
The chosen SuperStars are also in a position to network with other BRDC Members at events during the year, many of whom are role models with a highly decorated history in the sport. This is one of the more invaluable assets of the programme as so many BRDC Members are willing to offer their unique perspectives and advice to the SuperStars.
With more and more drivers registering their desire to become BRDC SuperStars each year, this is a highly coveted and very special opportunity for anyone who is selected. It is with great thanks to our Young Driver Patrons that all of the costs of running the SuperStars programme are covered, although funds are not provided for the purposes of ‘topping up’ drivers’ budgets.
I look forward to the future and working to secure the futures of British racing’s handpicked, top talent.
