NOTICE OF DEATH - JOHN BLUNSDEN (1930 - 2016)

With great regret we are very sorry to report the passing of John Blunsden, an Associate Member of the Club since 1973, on 19 July after a long illness following a disabling stroke in 2012.

John was the Managing Director of the book publishers Motor Racing Publications and is well known to Members for his motor sport journalism, going back to the editorship of Motoring News in the 1950s, his series of racing car track tests in Motor Racing magazine in the 1960s, and his work as motor racing correspondent for The Times for 20 years from 1970. He was also the author of numerous motor racing books including definitive works on the Cosworth DFV engine and Formula Junior. John served as Chairman of the Guild of Motoring Writers in 1973 and 1982 and was twice winner of the Guild’s Montagu of Beaulieu Trophy.

He was 86 years old and leaves a widow, Pauline, son Nick and grand-daughter Darcy to whom the BRDC offers its most sincere condolences.

John's funeral will take place on Friday 12 August at 1.30pm at Beckenham Crematorium, Elmers End Road, Beckenahm BR3 4TD.  No flowers please but donations in John’s memory may be made to: St Christopher’s Hospice, 51-59 Lawrie Park Road, Sydenham SE26 6DZ.  It would be helpful for the family if Members who expect to attend could signal their intention to rayhutton@aol.com
