NOTICE OF DEATH - GERRY SOUTHBY (1932 - 2022)

It is with great regret that we have to inform Members of the passing of another long-serving Associate Mechanic Member, Gerry Southby, who died on Tuesday 25 January. He was 89 years old and had been suffering from oral cancer for the last year. Gerry was assistant mechanic to Colin Knight with the Normand Racing Team whose immaculate and distinctive white and blue Lotus 23Bs were a familiar sight at the front of international and national sports car races in the 1963 season in the hands of regular divers Mike Beckwith and Tony Hegbourne, joined on occasion, when he had a spare weekend away from winning his first World Championship, by Jim Clark. At the end of the 1963 season both Gerry and Colin were elected as Associate Mechanic Members. Until his final illness, Gerry was a regular visitor to Silverstone and to the BRDC Clubhouse. The BRDC offers its deepest condolences to Gerry's daughter Lisa and to his family.
