NOTICE OF DEATH - MIKE HEWLAND
It is with regret that the Club has to announce the death of Mike Hewland, on Saturday 18th August 2012.
Mike formed Hewland Engineering in 1957, a company that became synonymous with motorsport transmission technology. Their first Formula 1 involvement was altering a gearbox for the British Racing Partnership team, before the company really made its name in Formula Junior.
From there, the Hewland business grew to such an extent that for much of the 1960s, 70s and 80s, almost the entire F1 field ran its gearboxes, with BRM and Ferrari the only exceptions, for a long period. The package of a Cosworth DFV engine mated to a Hewland gearbox dominated most of the era.
Condolences have been sent to Mike’s son, William.
The funeral will be held on September 7th at Easthampstead Crematorium, Berks - please contact William if you would like to attend.
