NOTICE OF DEATH - GABRIEL KONIG

It is with regret that the Club has to announce the death of Honorary Member, Gabriel Konig, on 8 January 2013.

Irish born Gabriel started racing in 1962 with a Lotus Elite but it was her 1968 season when she acquired one of John Britten’s very fast Mod Sports MG Midgets, had 18 wins, 9 lap records and was 2nd overall in the BRSCC Amasco Mod Sports Championship and the BARC Freddie Dixon Mod Sports Championship that she really came to prominence. Success in the 1970s continued with a Chevrolet Camero winning several races in the 1972 British Group 1 season. She enjoyed success overseas and into the 1990s and more recently competed in some historic events. Far more than one of the best women drivers of her day, Gabriel was considered by her peers to be very much a match for the men against whom she raced. She was made an Honorary Member of the BRDC in 1973.

Condolences have been sent to Gabriel’s partner.  Gabriel's funeral will be held on Tuesday 15 January at St Brigid's Church, Beaulieu Parish, Drogheda, Ireland.
