COLIN TURKINGTON BRITISH TOURING CAR CHAMPION
The British Touring Car Championship reached an exciting climax yesterday, Sunday 4th October, on the Brands Hatch Grand Prix Circuit. In the end, the Championship went down to the last race of the season and a cool headed Colin Turkington was able to bring his Team RAC BMW 320Si home in second place and clinch the Championship 5 points ahead of hard charging Jason Plato. Indeed, it was the 2001 Championship winner Jason, who dominated proceedings at Brands, becoming only the second driver in the history of the BTCC to win all three races in one day. Clearly disappointed, Jason could not have done any more to try and produce a a second championship victory. The outcome at Brands Hatch also finalised the result for the 2009 BRDC Silver Star, the award that pits the most successful in British Touring Cars, British GT and British Formula 3. Jason won a record 5th Silver Star beating Colin by only 4 points.
