SILVERSTONE TO HOST FIVE-WAY BTCC TITLE DECIDER
The DUNLOP MSA British Touring Car Championship at Silverstone, in association with Honda Racing (BTCC), heads to the Northamptonshire circuit on 15-16 October for the final round of another nail-biting season. The stakes couldn’t be higher as only one driver will walk away from Silverstone crowned as the 2011 champion.
As it stands an unprecedented five drivers (four of which are BRDC Members) are still in with a chance of winning the title, and with three BTCC races on Sunday, there are still plenty of championship-deciding points up for grabs. Honda Racing Team’s Matt Neal currently leads the championship with 225 points. Neal’s team-mate Gordon Sheddon and Jason Plato (Silverline Chevrolet) are joint second with 220 points. Rounding off the quintet of title hopefuls are Mat Jackson (Airwaves Racing) and James Nash (888 Racing with Colin Contractors), with 189 and 181 points respectively.
All of the action will unfold on the 1.6 mile National Circuit, which will provide plenty of overtaking and close, bumper-to-bumper racing in all three BTCC races on the final Sunday of the season. In addition to the BTCC races, a further seven support races will be taking to the track.
