GUILD OF MOTORING WRITERS AND THE BRDC
Members of The Guild of Motoring Writers were among the guests at Silverstone recently, where Damon Hill was hosting his second annual BRDC President’s media barbecue prior to the British Grand Prix.
A strong showing led by Chairman Charlotte Blight, Deputy Chairman Richard Aucock, Honorary Secretary Chris Adamson, Honorary Treasurer Matthew Carter and Vice-President Ray Hutton made up more than half of the 80-strong press and British Racing Drivers’ Club guest list at the evening celebrations on Friday 8 July.
Damon welcomed Guild members, to whom he had issued an open invitation, and said he was delighted so many had been able to attend on a very wet day. He described it as a very exciting weekend for the Club, as it saw the first Grand Prix to use Silverstone’s new pits complex. He added that he was hopeful of continuing the new association which had developed between the BRDC and the Guild of Motoring Writers.
Joining him in welcoming journalists was Stuart Rolt, new BRDC Chairman, who praised Damon’s work on behalf of the Club in helping to bring the new facilities to fruition and for his work with the media. Also in attendance was former GP driver Derek Warwick. As well as the evening meal, Guild members were able to enjoy the use of the BRDC Clubhouse and Farm throughout the day. In addition to watching practice for the F1 race, guests saw 2010 Guild Driver of the Year Nick Tandy practising for the Porsche Supercup title.
