BRDC MEMBERS ENJOY SUCCESS AT WATKINS GLEN
BRDC Full Members Ryan Briscoe and Dario Franchitti claimed 2nd and 3rd respectively at the Watkins Glen leg of the IndyCar series.
It was an eventful race which saw the top three places change several times as yellow flags and restarts reigned supreme.
Will Power and Ryan lined up 1st and 2nd on the starting grid and Power held his lead to the chequered flag for victory and more points as he continues to lead the Drivers standings. Only Ryan challenged after coming out in front after pit stops, only for Power to pass him almost immediately.
Dario was soon up with Castrovenes along with Scott Dixon and on lap 4 the three were side-by-side down the back straight but retained their positions only for Dario to make a move stick and take second from Castrovenes the next time around. When Dixon attempted the same there was contact that left Dixon with a damaged nose cone and Catrovenes with a puncture.
Dario was then passed by Raphael Matos but re-took the position in the pit stops. The leading duo of Power and Ryan also swapped places as Ryan jumped ahead in the pit stop period. It didn’t last long as Power re-took the lead soon after leaving Ryan to do battle with Dario.
The Indy-500 winner passed second from Ryan but could not shake the Australian off. On the final lap Ryan sliced past Dario to take second and finish there. With Ryan second and Dario third on the podium it was a good weekend for the two BRDC Members.
The result now means that Will Power leads the Drivers Championship standings on 327 points with Dario snapping at his heels on 295 points. Ryan is in 4th on 280 points only 7 points behind 3rd place Scott Dixon.
